AtlasIED Atmosphere Transforms the Medtronic Cafeteria Experience

Since establishing its first operations in the Dominican Republic in 1998, Medtronic has grown into one of the country’s largest medical device manufacturers, employing thousands of workers across multiple plants near Santo Domingo. Its most recent expansion, a fourth facility dedicated to neurosurgical devices, created more than 450 jobs and further expanded the company’s manufacturing presence in the country.

For a manufacturing employer like Medtronic, an on-site cafeteria helps keep production on schedule by eliminating the time and disruption of off-site lunch breaks. It also provides a shared space where employees can connect, making the cafeteria an important part of the overall workplace experience. To support that environment, Medtronic collaborated with local integration firm Musitempo to design and implement an audio system tailored to the cafeteria’s needs.

Musitempo selected AtlasIED’s Atmosphere platform as the best fit for the application. Combining DSP, intuitive control, amplification, and flexible system management, Atmosphere provides a centralized platform for managing the cafeteria’s audio.

At the center of the system is the Atmosphere AZM4-D, a Dante-enabled, four-zone DSP that provides centralized control, routing, and signal processing. Programming and system management are handled through a browser-based interface accessible from PCs, tablets, or mobile devices via Ethernet or built-in Wi-Fi. Rights-based access allows staff to manage the controls relevant to their day-to-day responsibilities while giving administrators broader visibility and control over the system.

Musitempo also installed A-BT Bluetooth wall inputs, allowing staff to stream music directly from mobile devices, and A-XLR wall inputs for convenient connections during staff meetings, presentations, and other events. These inputs give the cafeteria a simple way to accommodate different audio sources without requiring changes to the core system.

To reinforce low-frequency performance throughout the cafeteria, Musitempo selected the Atlas+Fyne FC-8ST premium in-ceiling subwoofer. Designed to deliver deep, impactful bass from a discreet overhead installation, the FC-8ST adds depth and headroom to the audio system without adding a visible floor- or wall-mounted subwoofer. Its ability to extend low-frequency response down to 40 Hz gives music more weight and presence, while the in-ceiling installation helps maintain the cafeteria's clean, contemporary look. The result is a fuller listening experience that stays engaging even as the room fills up and ambient noise increases.

By combining application-focused system design with the flexibility of AtlasIED Atmosphere, Musitempo created an audio environment that supports the cafeteria throughout the workday. With centralized management, flexible inputs, and automated audio processing, the system gives Medtronic’s facilities team a straightforward way to manage the space while keeping the technology largely in the background.
