Company History

Atlas Sound was founded in Brooklyn, NY by Bob Reinhardt and Carl Blumenthal, where they pioneered the first electro-acoustic outdoor PA loudspeaker. By merging a megaphone-style horn with electronic amplification, they revolutionized public address capabilities, solving the limitations of traditional megaphones for large audiences—a breakthrough accelerated by the demands of Warren Harding's 1920s presidential campaign.

From there, the company began manufacturing microphone stands and other accessories preferred by artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Whitney Houston and many more.

The company pioneers PA loudspeakers and microphone stands, laying the foundation for becoming a leader in commercial audio. Over subsequent decades, Atlas Sound expands manufacturing with facilities in Ennis, TX, and Phoenix, AZ, integrating advanced metalworking, molding, robotics, and automation.

Systems are installed in high-profile venues like LaGuardia Airport and Moynihan Train Hall, and used by icons from Whitney Houston to The Beatles.

In 2006, IED (Innovative Electronic Designs) launches the Titan series, marking its first networked DSP power amplifier system. By 2009, Atlas Sound and IED come under unified executive oversight as closely affiliated "sister companies," operating jointly yet retaining distinct brands while sharing strategic direction.

In 2011, Atlas Sound fully merges with IED—integrating sales, marketing, engineering, and support—forming AtlasIED, a global leader in audio & communications. By 2015, the companies complete their unification, with all sales, marketing, and service teams operating under the AtlasIED banner, enhancing market reach and operational efficiency.

AtlasIED celebrates 90 years in business, reinforcing its status as a leader in commercial audio and communication technology. The company introduces significant enhancements to its Atmosphere audio control platform and invests heavily in cutting-edge threat detection and beam-steering loudspeaker technologies.

Today, AtlasIED maintains its family-owned heritage while achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, with systems spanning mass notification, VoIP, life-safety systems, and sound masking.
